Tofino 2017

Shortly after finding out that we were pregnant with our second child, we decided that we absolutely needed to plan a babymoon. Chris and I don't get a lot of time alone together anymore and we had never travelled without Scarlett. As much as we love to travel together as a family, taking Scarlett along is exhausting and can often limit our trip. So we decided that just this one time we could travel just the two of us and have some time to ourselves before the new baby came. We made arrangements for my parents and sister to watch Scarlett while we were gone and they were more than happy to do so. Thank God for awesome family!

We decided it would be best to keep our trip relatively short and booked for four days. Tofino, BC is by far our favourite travel destination in Canada and we knew right away that this sweet little town on the island was where we were going. It is a small town on the west coast that is surrounded by ocean and ancient rainforest.  Tofino is a 9 hour drive from where we are (not including the wait time for the ferry) and is an absolutely beautiful drive. There are so many little stops on the way, you could end up spending the entire day just sighting seeing off the drive. We stopped at a few of our favourite spots along the way and had to refrain from stopping more. We arrived at our favourite hotel in Tofino, Pacific Sands Beach Resort, just in time to grab dinner and catch the sunset. We stay at Pacific Sands every time we go to Tofino and this will likely never change! It is in the best location and makes our trip one to remember every single time.

Chris and I spent our time on the Island adventuring and relaxing. We explored all of the local beaches and Chris even tried surfing (which he was actually pretty good at for it being his first time) while I floated around in the shallows on my boogie board. The ocean in the area is extremely cold, even in the summer, and you cannot swim without a wetsuit. Maternity wetsuits are not easy to come by (do they even make those?) so I didn't think i'd be able to do any swimming but the girls at our resorts surf rental place found me one that was stretchy enough to work haha. It was incredibly relaxing being able to float around in the ocean. On one of our days, we rented electric scooters to go explore the town and some other beaches. We had a blast riding from place to place and sight seeing on our fun little rides.

There are endless things to do in Tofino and each one is absolutely spectacular. We had a hard time relaxing because all we wanted to do was explore our surroundings. Each day we hiked and walked until our legs were sore.

We seriously missed Scarlett and it was tough. This was the longest time I have ever spent away from her and I couldn't help thinking, 'oh my gosh Scarlett would love this', the whole time. But we needed this time together. It was so wonderful spending four full days with Chris and having freedom to do whatever we wanted to. Our travels home were long (we missed our ferry) but peaceful. Coming home to Scarlett was so exciting and my heart was so full the second I saw her.

Tofino, we will see you again soon!

xo Christina.
